Algae are considered as the next biggest source for biofuels, but none of us was aware that they can also be used to prepare ultra thin biodegradable batteries. It's great! This was found out by the researcher's team of the Uppsala University at Sweden. Well, these green batteries can then vie with the normal lithium-ion batteries. The researchers have found that there is an algae species which is named as Cladophora and they are usually found in clumps on the beaches. These Cladophora can be used to make cellulose which has 100 times more surface are then in the normal cellulose of paper.
This cellulose can then hold sufficient conducting polymers which can clutch electricity for a longer period of time. It's really incredible to listen this, but its sheer truth. These algae batteries can hold 200% extra electricity than our regular cellulose batteries and they can again be recharge within just 11 seconds. With this invention we can have surety that one fine day we will be able to reduce the e-waste from our metal batteries.
